Amazing Australia Trip Day 3: Sydney Fish Market, CBD & Sydney Tower Eye

Next post on my 8 Days Trip to Australia series: Day 3 - where we spent our day having breakfast at Sydney Fish Market, the Central Business District (CBD) area & finishing off with Sydney's night view from the top of the Sydney Tower Eye!

Day 3 - 28 August 2017, Monday

Overall itinerary of our third day

0730 - 0800 : Travel to Sydney Fish Market

0800 - 1100 : Breakfast at Sydney Fish Market

1100 - 1400 : Visit Darling Harbour & surrounding area

1400 - 1600 : Visit Queen Victoria Building & have lunch nearby 1800 - 2100 : Sydney view at Sydney Tower Eye + Skywalk

2100 - 2200 : Late dinner at Pancakes On The Rocks

2200 onwards : Go back to Airbnb venue to rest

As a tourist visiting Sydney, there are certainly places which are on the must-go list. One of which is the Sydney Fish Market, a large marketplace which serves both fresh and deliciously prepared seafood! Even if you are not a fan of oyster and crabs (like me), there is definitely something which would appeal to you.

Since we are not looking at buying fresh seafood to cook, we headed straight for the 'cooked' section. There is a wide variety of seafood which you can choose from, including Rock lobster mornay (lobster with grilled cheese), Aburi scallops (with cheese as well), grilled flounder and all kind of fish...

Seeing how the Aburi scallops look soooo damn appetising, we just had to get them and coincidentally, they came in a set of 3 for AU$10. Since we are at Sydney Fish Market, we definitely could not leave without having some fish too. Ta-da! Introducing you... Classic Fish & Chips!

Then, here comes 'Doshi' which got its name from a combination of Donut and Sushi. Basically, it is a sushi shaped like a donut, aka a pretty fancy sushi. We got one, and it tasted okay. Not fantastic, but it is alright.

After seeing so many oysters at the market, it would be a waste if we did not at least taste one. Although I am not a big fan, but it tasted fresh!

Having filled our stomachs with a great breakfast, we took a train to visit the Darling Harbour. Let's just say, it is really pretty with the blue waters, blue skies and just the right kind of weather. If you want to get a souvenir for your friends and relatives from Sydney, there is a Hard Rock Cafe Shop near the Darling Harbour where you could get their shirts with the word 'Sydney' written on it.

We were walking around the area and just randomly, decided to visit the Chinese Garden of Friendship as we had quite a bit of free time on our hands. If you take a closer look at the photo below, you would realise the contradiction between the pavilions and the buildings in the background. Something like... traditional versus modern landscape? I was staring at the photo for a while, wondering why it looked 'off' and there we go...

Our next stop is the Queen Victoria Building, a place with great history and beautiful architecture. On the way there, we passed by this building called Market City which looked like it came out from Lego land. Another interesting looking building! It is actually the Chinatown in Sydney.

Just a distance away from Queen Victoria Building is the Regent Place Shopping Centre. A shopping mall with loads of food options. We dropped by there just for me to get my Aqua S soft serve! I have seen so many photographs of it on Instagram so it is a must-try for me in Sydney. However, it kind of looks pretty but tasted just like any other ice-cream. Insta-worthy though?

We also had our lunch at the Shopping Centre - Bite Chew Drink, a Korean-American fusion food place. We ordered this huge plate of meat topped with shoestring fries, and... we liked it. It does look as good as it tasted!

Do not miss out on the Sydney Town Hall Clock Tower which is located opposite the Queen Victoria Building, another building with awesome architecture!

Finally, here comes the highlight of the day for me - viewing the streets of Sydney from Sydney Tower Eye.

We purchased a package which included a 4D video screening, a visit to the Observation Deck and a 45 minutes Skywalk in the open air outside of Sydney Tower, 258 metres above city streets. I have always loved night views, so we decided to do this at night.

The Skywalk is an exhilarating experience, from the wearing of suit, alcohol-testing (to ensure we are not drunk, haha) to walking on glass panel out in the open air. It was a cold, cold night with cold winds. But hey, it was a really nice night, being able to take in the night views of Sydney.

To give you an idea of where the Skywalk took place, can you see the red words 'Westfield' on the photo below? We were walking under those lights and we got to touch one of the letters too!

To end off the night, we took a train and then walked back to Darling Harbour for dinner. It was late but Pancakes On The Rocks is still opened! It runs 24 hours anyway, and they are known for their pancakes (Duh..).

So what did we have for our late night dinner? One savoury crepe (Chicken & Mushroom) and one sweet pancakes (Devil Delights which include chocolate pancakes with strawberries, cream, chocolate ice-cream, finished with a drizzle of chocolate sauce!). If you are wondering about these pancakes, we enjoyed them thoroughly!
