Food Review @ Redpan
"When one's life is so busy and filled up to the brim with various commitments, one should still never say no to food. Just because food makes everything better." -Me
Living by this (occasionally-make-sense kind of) mantra, I brought myself and my friend to an awesome yet affordable dinner at Redpan@Marina Square yesterday. Redpan is actually a brainchild of DP Architects x GRUB. GRUB sounds familiar, doesn't it? Although I have not personally ate at GRUB, I have read their (good) food reviews before.
So I am here, and I am here for food.
Before I start talking about the food and what-not, I would like to say that the design of the place is pretty tasteful. It is no surprise though, seeing that DP Architects is an established homegrown architecture firm with five decades of international design experience.
Then, here comes the menu. Every page or so, there would be some colourful food illustrations. They definitely serve their purposes of trying to make you salivate for more food.
Finally, let's talk about food. Having seen some reviews online, we decided to start off with a Seafood Chowder ($8) and a serving of Truffle Floss Fries ($8).
From the first spoonful of Seafood Chowder, I would say the soup is flavourful. Filled with a chowder of prawn, crab, squid and clam with bacon, it is finished off with a sprinkle of garlic toast bits. Overall, it is not overwhelmingly sickening after a few scoops of it since the chowder is not that thick. The phrase to describe this dish would be "just the right amount of flavour"!
As for the Truffle Floss Fries, we agreed that it is "love at first taste"! Like who would have expected truffle fries to go well with chicken floss right? But it did. On top of that surprising discovery we made, the crispy fries made it even better since soggy fries would have just killed the whole dish.
Next, we had their 'Lup Cheong' Macaroni & Cheese for $12. Comprising of chinese sausage (Lup Cheong), curry leaves and cheesy bechamel tossed with macaroni, I felt that this is the most unique Macaroni & Cheese I have ever tasted. I am not exactly sure if I liked it or not. On one hand, I love any kind of Macaroni & Cheese and this is no exception. On another hand, maybe the 'Lup Cheong' made the whole dish a little more salty than intended?
Anyhow, just go for it since this is a 'Singapore' edition of Macaroni & Cheese where you would not get elsewhere.
By the time we had our 3rd order down our stomachs, we were pretty full. However, there is ALWAYS (and I repeat, ALWAYS!) space for desserts, especially if it is Matcha flavoured dessert. Here, I shall present to you... Matcha Rolled Cake!
Let the cake speaks for itself. Look at that rich green colour and tell me, you don't want to have it because I would like to have another one. The combination of the dense layer of matcha cake with rich matcha cream made my tastebuds satisfied. We finished the cake in one minute, like 'stab cake-shove cake into mouth-mhmm' and repeat like a few more times till it is gone!
I ended up bringing the last slice of Matcha rolled cake home with me. That made me a happy girl that night.
Till next time, I would be back with more friends so I can get more food! :)
