Food Review @ Kko Kko Na Ra

Kko Kko Na Ra, another korean restaurant that specializes in Korean Fried Chicken! Seeing that I am an avid KFC (Korean Fried Chicken, NOT Kentucky Fried Chicken!) fan, I had to give their famous fried chicken a try.

Tucked in one of the restaurants streets at Tanjong Pagar, I almost walked past Kko Kko Na Ra if my friend did not notice. We visited Kko Kko Na Ra in the afternoon so perhaps, that is why there is a lunch crowd. Eventually, we were directed to a table which is situated right in front of the counter. A tad bit... out of space I would say? We had a hard time getting to our seats.

That does not really matter anyway! The service was pretty good. We were served a bottle of drink and then some side dishes once we placed our order.

There is a total of 7 side dishes, or rather starters. In a clockwise manner, from the top left hand corner, we have some sort of vegetables, some anchovies, bean sprouts, beancurd (tofu skin?), curry potatoes (it is an odd dish to have in a Korean restaurant) and kimchi. The last one is some pickled radishes, which we all really loved. It is refillable too!

The very first dish served, was the Fried Garlic Chicken Wings marinated with special garlic and soy sauce. You could choose to have them mild or spicy. This is definitely one of the better fried chicken around though my favourite would still be the ones from Twins! That said, Kko Kko Na Ra's wings are crispy and juicy. I would have liked the taste to be more intense.

Next, the 2nd dish we had was the Kimchi Jungol ($25 for small, $35 for large). For any Kimchi lover, this is a MUST order. For this kimchi stew, you could choose to have it served with one of the following choices: Tuna, Pork, Spam, Sausage or Saury (fish).

My friend suggested that we go with Spam, so this is how it looks like. Basically, this Kimchi stew comes with ramen, kimchi soup, tofu, chilli, some kimchi and the choice of meat. For four of us, the portion of the small version of Kimchi Jungol is just right! Taste wise, I would say it tasted like how I expected a kimchi stew should taste.

Lastly, we had a Bossam from the Lunch Special Menu.

Priced at a slightly cheaper price for fewer slices of steamed pork belly, it comes together with a bowl of soup and metal box of white rice and fried egg. By adding a special red sauce to the pork belly and then wrapped with a cabbage, it was NOM-licious for me! The sauce was to die for!

With that, we sat around for a while watching the lunch crowd disperse. Just before we left the restaurant, we were given 4 slices of watermelon. That is exactly why I love Korean restaurants, always that good service no matter the start or end of a meal. This means... more korean restaurants hopping for me!

Till my next food adventure. :)
