6 Places to visit at Insadong!
Is Insadong one of the destinations you have planned for your visit to Seoul? If it is, then you have certainly got one great place down in your itinerary! Let me share with you the 6 places which you have to go when you are in Insadong!
Place #1 - West'nEast Cafe
According to my itinerary, we were supposed to leave via Exit 1 at Anguk station. To be honest, we were lost as soon as we wandered around the area for a moment. We only managed to find the cafe by approaching one of the friendly tourist helpers. Best of all, they patrol around the area and offer to help you get to your destinations for free!
You would know that you are near the cafe once you see this shop.
Right opposite this shop sits Westn'East Cafe. As we visited the cafe in the morning, it was quite empty.
Based on online recommendations, we ordered Hotteok with Grilled bananas. It comes with an ice-cream too, though I forgot what flavour it was. I only remembered that it was an unique Korean flavour and the Hotteoks were da bomb! I just have to tell you that you HAVE TO and MUST visit this place if you love Hotteok like I do.
Place #2 - Tea Therapy at Samcheongdong
This cafe was a last minute decision. I guess it was an alright cafe for me. What is unique about this place is that they serve medicinal, herbal tea and desserts.
Since we were looking for something cold to eat, we ordered their Tea Therapy Bingsu for 6,000Won. The Bingsu is topped with nuts and some sort of healthy beans I believe. It looks pretty but the ice was too coarse for our liking. It is almost like we have to chew on small bits of ice. However, I would encourage you to try their teas and perhaps some of the other desserts.
Place #3 - "Insadong Mall"
From Anguk station Exit 3, we turned left and crossed to the opposite side at the road junction. If you continue walking straight, you will soon see this mall on your left. Curious about why there were so many people here, we headed in to take a look.
At the ground floor, there were shops and food carts selling street food. One of them sells the poop cake. Yes, you read right! The snack has a poop shape and it has red bean filling in it. I quite liked the taste of the poop cake.
There was another food cart selling some chewy green waffle look-alike snack. I supposed it is some herb-flavoured snack? I love this though because it is chewy and drenched in honey! Perfect for a sweet tooth like me.
While we enjoyed our snacks, we headed upstairs to the roof top. Guess what? Korean romance culture is really DAEBAK! Forget about the Namsam Tower, here you can attach "Love Tags" instead of "Love Locks".
Place #4 - Insadong Street
From the mall, you can walk further down the street. Eventually, you will find this hotteok stall with a queue. Even if there wasn't any queue, I would have bought one hotteok since I have a deep love with hotteok. You would not be able to find hotteoks in Singapore that are as good as hotteok in Korea. So why not get one at every chance you have?
Place #5 - Korean Dessert Cafe
This cafe is located along the same street as the hotteok store. It is just a little further down and it is on the second floor. Take note though, there have quite a few branches in Seoul so you can visit them another time if you do not have stomach space for Bingsu. Honestly though, their Bingsus are HANDS DOWN one of the best! Another awesome dessert that you cannot get your hands on in Singapore even with the many Bingsu cafes popping up across Singapore.
We ordered the Traditional Injeolmi Bingsu. Definitely my favourite flavour with the chewy rice cakes and soy powder.
Place #6 - Miss Lee Cafe
For our dinner, we returned back to the road junction. Just before you cross the road to head back to Anguk station, you would see Miss Lee Cafe on your right. The cafe is also located on the second floor. You would definitely not want to miss out on this cafe. They serve really good Korean Lunchbox!
The interiors of the cafe is filled with tiny pieces of notes. I am guessing it is just like leaving love messages around again, or perhaps food reviews?
Anyway, we ordered the Korean Lunchbox and the steps to mix our rice are all stated in the menu. Behold the shaking of my lunchbox! I think I did a good job, haha.
A simple meal, but it was one of my BEST meals in Korea!
Excited to visit Insadong yet? :)
