Namsamgol Hanok Village

I am finally back after all the exams and projects! I shall continue from where I left off. For this post, I would be sharing with you my trip to Namsamgol Hanok Village. If you have an interest in exploring Korean culture and you are on a tight budget, then you might want to visit this place! This is basically a tourist spot I believe, and you could visit it for FREE!

We were thinking about visiting the Namsam Tower on that day itself. So other than Namsam Tower, where else could we visit first before going there? While doing some research, I came across Namsamgol Hanok Village. A visit to Namsamgol Hanok Village would allow you to explore traditional houses of Joseon Dynasty and these houses belong to people of various social classes. Through visiting the living quarters which comprised of kitchens and rooms of various purposes, you could get a sneak peek at their daily lives.

To get there, you could alight at Chungmuro Station, which is on Line 4 (subway). We got lost after we exited from Exit 3 (it is the correct exit!). You will passed by a petrol kiosk station and if you find yourself taking walking towards Korea House, please stop and walk in the opposite direction! Then you will find yourself at the entrance of Namsamgol Hanok Village.

Upon going pass the entrance, you will see these cardboard characters. You could take some photographs with them if you do not plan to rent the Korean traditional costumes later (Yes, you could!).

From there, you are free to explore. You could make use of the map near the entrance and there are quite a few signboards around, so you could just follow those too. We walked around and found ourselves in front of this pretty pond near a pavillion. Well, you could take a break at the pavillion if it gets too warm for you.

We followed the path further down and arrived in front of a building, which is the entrance to the 5 traditional houses.

Up the stairs, you will find the living quarters of people from different social classes. If you rent the traditional costumes to wear, you coud take a photo with these quarters as your backgrounds. We did not rent them though, we simply went around taking photo of the different rooms such as the kitchen and resting room (bedroom?).

I assumed that this is how they filter their water...? I am not very sure, haha.

After spending around 2 hours at the Namsamgol Hanok Village, we took a final photo and left for lunch before continuing our way to Namsam Tower.

I guess this place is one of those 'I will only visit once to just get a feel' sort of spots. It is a great place to visit to immerse yourself in Korean culture, just like one of those palaces. So perhaps, you could consider this if you need somewhere to spend your time before visiting the Namsam Tower.

Till next time, our trip to the Namsam Tower!
